Atlanta – March 1, 2011 – The Cast Iron Soil Pipe Institute (CISPI) is pleased to announce that it has partnered with NSF International, an organization committed to protecting public health and the environment, to launch a new certification program that will hold no-hub cast iron couplings to rigorous standards just as with NSF Certified cast iron soil pipe and fittings.
CISPI assisted NSF International in developing this new certification program to give users confidence that the cast iron pipe, fittings and couplings used in drain, waste and vent (DWV) systems are made to the appropriate industry standards. The new program includes independent, periodic review of deflection, shear, and unrestrained hydrostatic tests as well as dimensional inspections and review of material test reports for steel and gaskets that comprise the couplings. Manufacturers will receive NSF certification for couplings that meet the CISPI 310 standard based on in-plant inspections conducted by trained NSF personnel. Once certified, by NSF International, manufacturers can apply an NSF certification mark to these couplings to indicate compliance with NSF requirements and appear on NSF’s website at www.nsf.org/Certified/Plumbing/Listings.asp?ProductStandard=CISPI+310&.
