American Made Matters

American Made = Quality Pipe & Fittings

Testing during the U.S. manufacturing process ensures consistent quality and compliance with both ASTM and CISPI Standards for cast iron pipe and fittings. American manufacturers follow the CISPI 301 and ASTM A74 Standards for pipe and fittings. Testing of tensile strength, chemical and dimensional testing, and radiation screening of raw materials are several requirements of the standards that ensure quality-made cast iron soil pipe and fittings.

Not All Cast Iron Is the Same.

When you see the CI® – you know it’s the mark of quality. Specify and install CISPI member American-made cast iron pipe and fittings.  CISPI member manufacturers adhere to two standards – CISPI 301 and ASTM A74. These standards contribute to life safety, ensuring product quality and harmonization across manufacturers. The cast iron soil pipe and fittings made in America by CISPI members, come from 96% post-consumer scrap verified by ICC-ES VAR reports. Post-consumer scrap includes drums, radiators, and more. The metallurgy of the product is monitored and tested multiple times a day to ensure it meets the CISPI and ASTM standards. There’s a high degree of traceability because the cast iron pipe is marked in the foundry – not at the time of shipment.

The markings on your cast iron provide a lot of information. Only cast iron pipe and fittings manufactured by CISPI members in the U.S. can be marked with the CI® – The Mark of Quality. According to the standards, every pipe and fitting should also include the following :

  • Country of origin
  • Manufacturer name
  • Date stamp – which is marked in the foundry at the time of production (pipe only)

In addition, CISPI members may also include our trademarks NoHub CI®, Quiet Pipe®, as well as the recycle symbol as verified by ICC-ES-VAR reports.
