Fire Resistive and Other Benefits

Cast Iron Soil Pipe for DWV Systems

One of the big advantages of using cast iron pipe and fittings for DWV systems is that it’s recognized by engineers, owners and installers for its simple maintenance procedures. There are no issues with jetting, cabling, or cleaning the DWV system with power equipment. Another benefit is the ease of installation and reduced cost of firestopping for cast iron when compared to other piping systems.

CISP firestopping provides another way to minimize damage and risk. Cast iron requires installers to only seal the annular space between the wall or floor and the pipe. Mineral wool batting and fire-resistant caulking are used to fill the annual space. Other plumbing systems require additional materials, time, and labor that increase costs and if not installed correctly could cause harm. Understand how fire-resistive construction supports life safety.

FACT: Cast iron soil pipe systems’ maximum working temperature is 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

FACT: Cast iron pipe and fittings can withstand temperatures well beyond 212 degrees. A CISP system is only limited by the gasket material used in joining methods.

CISPI Plumbing Systems are up to 11 Times Quieter

Building owners and general contractors (developers) understand that cast iron piping systems set the standard that all other DWV systems are measured against. In the healthcare environment, nothing beats the sound attenuation cast iron soil pipe and fittings provide. While plumbing systems are behind the walls and out of site, there is no denying that there is no quieter DWV system than cast iron soil pipe. Learn more.
