THE IRON-CLAD TRUTH:

How do you know if your cast iron soil pipe and fittings meet all of the requirements of the standards? Look for the CISPI  Mark of Quality. All of our members’ foundries use this mark to show their products meet the appropriate CISPI 301 and ASTM A74 standards. We even conduct unannounced inspections three times annually during the course of the year to make sure the products meet these standards.

Annex A1, found in both CISPI 301 and ASTM A74, details the requirements for third party certification for the manufacturing of cast iron soil pipe and fittings to the CISPI 301 and ASTM A74 standards.

Annex A1 also requires the third-party inspector to physically measure 10 different sizes and configurations of pipe and fittings for each class of cast iron soil pipe and fittings manufactured at the location. In addition, CISPI 301 and ASTM A74 standards require that a third-party certifier shall also verify coatings used shall not contain lead above 600 ppm.

The standards also give the end user, AHJ, purchaser or engineer the right to request copies of the third-party or manufacturer certification reports when being used to prove compliance to the CISPI 301, ASTM A888 or ASTM A74 standards.
